At L’Academy in Davis, we create a nurturing environment where every child thrives through curiosity, language, and play. We provide full-time, year-round preschool and daycare for children ages 5 months to 6 years. Families may choose Spanish immersion and Mandarin enrichment programs to support early bilingual development, with English readiness integrated into our curriculum. Our curriculum combines Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and play-based learning to support whole-child growth. Our Davis location also serves families living in Woodland, Dixon, West Sacramento, and surrounding Yolo County communities.

Meet Our Staff
Marissa Hort
Director
Ms. Marissa brings 15 years of experience in the child development field. She finds joy watching children learn and observing teachers connect with their classes. Known for her natural bond with babies, children, and animals, she recalls a fun highlight from a previous school where all staff photos featured a classroom pet, like the class hamster.
At home, Ms. Marissa is a mother to two children, ages 7 and 11, active in competitive cheer and soccer. Her household also includes a variety of pets, from dogs and cats to chickens, a duck, a lizard, and frogs—leading her to joke she might have been a zookeeper in another life.
Recently, she moved to Davis to support her mother. Ms. Marissa enjoys nature adventures, beach outings with friends and family, and loves being part of L’Academy’s diverse community. She looks forward to getting to know each child and family.
Carolina Sandoval
Lead Infant Teacher
Mrs. Carolina (Mrs. Caro) is the Infant and Toddler Lead Teacher at L’Academy this year, with 5 years of teaching experience. She is passionate about creating a safe and supportive environment for her students. A proud mom of a 5-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son, Mrs. Caro is bilingual in Spanish and English. In her free time, she enjoys family outings to the park, caring for her Standard Poodle, coffee, shopping, reading, and outdoor activities.
Carol Ramos
Lead Toddler Teacher
Ms. Carol Ramos, originally from Colombia, has been in the U.S. for 14 months and is passionate about supporting children’s growth in all areas of development. Known for her patience and calm nature, she strives to create a nurturing, joyful environment where children can thrive. Ms. Carol is dedicated to being a positive role model and contributing to the school community. In her free time, she enjoys movies, shopping, and sharing coffee or hot chocolate with friends. Her favorite color is pink!

My 18 month old grandson attends this daycare and I drop-off/pick-up him daily so I have lots of observations/interactions. All the teachers are so welcoming with smiles and hugs when there are tears. I feel my grandson is so safe there! The daycare is immaculately clean and organized. It is a truly great daycare — we appreciate the communication and the love, care, and attentiveness of his teachers.
L’Academy is more than just a preschool; the staff is amazing and treats us like a second family! My daughter loves it here and has developed such a special enthusiasm for learning. In fact, she loves her teachers and friends so much that she always begs me to pick her up late! We are incredibly grateful for the diverse language and cultural immersion—including English, Spanish, and Chinese—that they offer.
My child has been attending for the past 2 years and he loves it! I enrolled my child because I want him to learn Spanish, and having most of the teachers be Spanish speakers has helped immensely. As a bonus, he has been learning Mandarin Chinese and enjoying it a lot. Even though there are different classrooms by age, all teachers care for all students, so it feels like a true village.
I feel incredibly fortunate not only to have found L’Academy for my daughter, but also to have her surrounded by such kind, attentive, and caring teachers. In the short time at L’Academy, my daughter made noticeable progress—she even learned to count from 1 to 10 in both Spanish and Mandarin! I’m grateful for the nurturing environment and the positive impact this experience has had on her.
